I led the production of this game during Fall 2025. I was inspired by The Backrooms and by CMU’s varied and unpredictable layout, with so many hidden shortcuts, areas, and varied aesthetics that I felt lended itself well to a game. Despite the name, I have never played and am unfamiliar with 5 Nights at Freddy’s; I just thought “5 Nights on Wean 4” sounded funny.
I spent many hours scanning various areas of CMU, particularly those connected to Wean 4, using Polycam.
Ultimately, the project did not turn out very well by the end of the semester. I got frustrated working on my first 3D game because I did not know how to use Blender very well and because I did not spend the time to learn all of the shortcut commands that would make 3D development much smoother. The main roadblock of the development was the 3D scan file sizes being too big to share with my teammates on GitHub (without paying for GitHub LFS) and the scans being a bit messy and difficult to align with each other.
Despite our difficulties, the game ended up winning Best Sound, no doubt thanks to Jasper, my sound designer. We also filmed various trailers before each GCS checkpoint meeting. These trailers are my favorite part of the game’s development.
